Vancouver, B.C., Canada - Airbnb says thousands of B.C. reservations at risk, blaming 'rushed' rental rules

  • Vancouver’s aggressive anti-STR stance in the name of preserving housing only for full time occupancy threatens two-thirds of the STRs in the province.

Lafayette, IN - Lafayette police take aim at single-night, transient-guest house parties

  • Newport Beach STR managers and owners already do a good job screening out people looking to throw parties at their properties.

Hawaii - Who’s Really to Blame for Hawaii Overtourism? Airbnb Pushes Back.

  • AirBNB correctly notes that hotels drive far more occupancy than STRs even in Hawaii, so blaming STRs for “over-tourism” is nonsense.

Jackson County - Short-term rentals now taxed as commercial properties in Jackson County

  • Although California does not allow a different tax rate between commercial and residential property, this threat is one to keep an eye on.

Logan, OH - Judge won’t throw out short-term rental lawsuit

  • In a win for property rights, the judge’s decision means a lawsuit from STRs owners against burdensome laws and regulations can proceed.

St. Charles, IL - St. Charles considers regulations for short-term rentals, community members voice concerns; St. Charles considers restrictions, tax on short-term rentals

  • The city currently has no laws or regulations governing STRs.

Nantucket, RI - Town: No active STR enforcement while appeal is pending; After Bombshell Court Ruling In Short-Term Rental Lawsuit, Town Says No Enforcement While Appeal Pending

  • More good news from Nantucket as the Town says it will not enforce the ban on STRs while it appeals the judge’s decision that Nantucket’s laws do not allow STRs.

Talbot County, MD - Talbot County Considers Stricter Short-Term Rental Rules, Faces Pushback

  • The County is considering stricter regulations against STRs, but local owners have organized to fight back. Good for them!

Athens, Greece - Ban on new short-term rentals in Athens city center extended until 2026

  • We are seeing this across major European tourist destinations as STRs get blamed out housing inaffordability.

Michigan - Michigan's economy boosted $1.4B in 2024 due to short-term rentals, study shows

  • A study by the Michigan Chamber of Commerce shows that STRs drive major economic activity, tax generation, and employment across the state.

Steamboat Springs, CO - Short-term rental owners voice opposition to Steamboat Springs’ vacancy tax proposal

  • The city is drafting a vacancy tax proposal originally intended to target vacation homes not used as STRs, but they have now agreed to extend it to STRs as well.
