Normal, IL - Normal seeks ban on new short-term rentals in single-family neighborhoods

  • Another town that has gone from STR registry to a proposed ban quickly. There are only 66 STRs in a town of 55,000 people.

Chicago - Editorial: Leave Airbnbs and short-term rentals alone, aldermen. There’s no crisis here

  • And outstanding editorial on the Chicago Tribune that lambasts the City Council for their proposal Ward-by-Ward STR ban, and lays the blame for the controversy with hoteliers.

Roswell, GA - City of Roswell puts new restrictions on short-term vacation rentals

  • The City Council has voted to require annual safety inspections on all STRs in the City, similar to commercial buildings,

Hilton Head, SC - Hilton Head takes new steps to crack down on short-term rentals, beach parking

  • Previous STR rules only allowed for criminal citations, which were rarely used. The new rules allow for civil citations for noise, trash, and parking violations at the approximately 6,600 STRs on the island.

Bellingham, WA - Lawsuit claims Bellingham’s short-term rental restrictions are unconstitutional

  • The lawsuit from STR property owners claims the severe restrictions on STRs in the town violate due process and equal protection clauses of the Constitution.
