Labor Day Safety Enhancement Period: September 5–7

A reminder to all Newport Beach short-term rental owners and managers that the City’s Labor Day Safety Enhancement Period begins at 12:01 a.m. Saturday, September 5, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Monday, September 7. During this period, applicable fines in the City’s Safety Enhancement Zones can be tripled. Certain violations on holiday weekend may place your permit as risk for suspension or revocation after the first offense.

We encourage all owners and managers to take some extra precautions this weekend. Check in with your guests, remind them of Newport Beach rules and expectations, emphasize that they need to be on their best behavior, and document the steps you take to promote compliance.

Responsible STR owners and managers already work hard to prevent problems. But after the events of July 4 — and with some continuing to look for reasons to blame short-term rentals for broader public-safety problems — this is a weekend when it makes sense to be especially diligent.

Document your best efforts. Respond promptly if an issue arises. And make sure your guests understand that a holiday weekend is not an excuse to disregard City rules or neighborhood expectations.

NBSTRA will continue working with the City to advocate for responsible STR owners and managers and to ensure that policy decisions are based on facts.
