Orange County Grand Jury Issues Report Calling for Greater Oversight of STRs

A long-await report from the Orange County Grand Jury on STRs in our County has been issued, and it calls for a balanced approach that respects property rights while urging cities to more aggressively regulate STRs in communities.

In the Orange County Register’s coverage of the report, they said:

“STRs can be good neighbors,” the grand jury declared. “The burden of getting STR operators to function in a community-friendly way should be on the operator and government, not the neighborhood residents.”

Meanwhile, the Voice of OC chose to highlight that Seal Beach and Fullerton were following up on the Grand Jury report with possible new regulations. On a positive note, those two cities seemed to agree that most of the problems with STRs in their communities came from illegal and unlicensed activity.

“Seal Beach City Councilman Joe Kalmick said the issue really boils down to separating the good operators who follow the rules and the bad operators who don’t, adding that people should call the police on noisy guests to help the city enforce the rules.”

To date, we have not seen any reactions to this report from the City of Newport Beach.
