OC Register Article Confirms Newport Beach City Manager Was Fired - Assistant City Manager Who Previously Oversaw STR Program to Become New City Manager

An article in the Orange County Register today confirms what we’d heard - that Newport Beach City Manager Grace Leung was terminated by the City Council rather than voluntarily resigned as previously reported.

The details of Leung’s departure are not of primary concern to STR owners, managers and friends in Newport Beach. Was is of interest is that Assistant City Manager Seimone Jurjis, who previously oversaw the STR licensing and enforcement department at the City, will be the new City Manager.

Mr. Jurjis has great familiarity with the City’s STR program, which can be a positive for NBSTRA, but there have been instances in his tenure where enforcement has been more aggeessive than we believe warranted. The vast majority of STR owners and operators in Newport Beach run quality properties and comply with the law.
