Trash Collection Disruptions Reported in Newport Beach Due to Garden Grove Chemical Emergency
CR&R and the City of Newport Beach have reported that the West Garden Grove chemical emergency has affected CR&R operations, including the facility where some service vehicles are stored. As a result, commercial and residential trash collection operations in Newport Beach have experienced delays.
Residential trash scheduled for May 22 was collected, but recycling and organics pickup from that day was moved to Tuesday, May 26. The City also reported that CR&R planned limited make-up service on Sunday, May 24, using trucks from another facility.
NBSTRA members, STR owners, and property managers should pay close attention to collection schedules over the next several days, especially with the Memorial Day holiday also affecting pickup timing. If you have guests in the property this week, consider notifying them that trash, recycling, and organics collection may not occur on the usual schedule. Owners who rely on a local manager, cleaner, or service provider should make sure someone is watching for CR&R updates and knows when bins should be placed out and pulled back in.
This is especially important because bins left out for extended periods can create parking issues, neighborhood complaints, and potential code-enforcement problems. If your property has a missed pickup, contact CR&R at 949-667-4158.
NBSTRA will continue monitoring City and CR&R updates and will share additional information if the service disruption continues.
